Our club member and Washington, D.C. rep, Darryl Winston, runs a wonderful
theater group that regularly produces the Mac/Eddy operettas. If you're going to
be in D.C., check out the local events. Here's an excerpt from the Washington
Post review of the recent Naughty Marietta production:
"Victor
Herbert's "Naughty Marietta" from 1910 is nearing its centennial, but it sounded
as fresh as this morning's sunrise in a production that just ended a long
run....The singing was excellent -- much better than one expects in a
community theater production (the Mount Vernon Players, founded in 1936, are the
oldest continuously operating community theater in Washington). This quality was
achieved by hard work; Winston auditioned four casts before making his final
selection."

jeanetteandnelson.com "A SCANDALOUS AFFAIR--The Secret Love Story of Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy" Operatic
soprano Hallie Neill and her husband Metropolitan Opera Baritone Theodore
Lambrinos portray Jeanette and Nelson with dialogue written by Miss Neill
inspired by the book, "Sweethearts". This new DVD is of the live performance given on Nelson's birthday, June 29, 2006 to a sold-out theater of 800 people! "Both Miss Neill and Mr. Lambrinos possess beautiful voices,
tossing off the difficult operatic pieces and singing the operatic selections in
a style truly reminiscent of the famed duo they celebrate. Using their rare gift
for comedy and a great love of singing, the real-life husband and wife team of
Neill and Lambrinos bring life to the surprise story of MacDonald & Eddy!" Robin
